1. The service
InterStand helps you understand what you read. Select a passage on a web page or in the web reader, choose an action, and InterStand explains, translates, summarizes, or questions that passage using the surrounding text you provide.
The service consists of the InterStand website at interstandus.com, the web reader, and the InterStand browser extension for Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Surfaces announced as coming soon, such as a Windows desktop app, are not part of the service until they are released; these Terms will apply to them from that day.
In these Terms, "InterStand", "we", and "us" refer to nexaEd LLC, which operates the service. These Terms, the Refund Policy, and the Privacy Policy together form the agreement between you and us. If they conflict, these Terms prevail.
2. The browser extension
The extension is distributed through browser extension stores, such as the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons, and your browser updates it automatically when we publish a new version. The store's own terms apply to the download and installation.
The extension acts only on text you select. It shows a small menu next to your selection and, when you choose an action, sends the selected text and a short surrounding passage to InterStand for an answer. It does not read pages you have not interacted with and does not collect your browsing history. What the extension can access, and what it never touches, is described in the Privacy Policy.
The extension runs on websites we do not own or control. Using it does not change your obligations to those sites, and we are not responsible for their content or their terms. Some pages block extensions or restrict text selection; on those pages the extension may not work, or may see only the text you selected.
3. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for using online services on your own, to create an account. If you use InterStand on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these Terms for it.
You can register with an email address and password, or continue with Google. Keep your password confidential and tell us promptly through the contact form if you believe your account has been used without your permission. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
You may review and sign out other active sessions, change your password, and delete your account from the Account page.
4. Acceptable use
Use InterStand only for lawful purposes and in a way that respects other people. Do not:
- submit text you have no right to use or share, or use the service to infringe copyright, privacy, confidentiality, or other rights;
- use the extension to get around a website's paywall, sign-in, or other access controls;
- attempt to bypass usage limits, entitlements, or payment, or share one account between many people;
- probe, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, or interfere with the service, its API, its security, or the safeguards of the AI model;
- use the service to generate content that is illegal, harmful, hateful, or deceptive, or to harass anyone;
- resell or redistribute the service, or build a competing product from its output without our permission.
We may limit, suspend, or end access that breaks these rules or that we reasonably believe puts the service or other users at risk.
5. AI-generated content
Explanations, translations, summaries, lessons, Elements, and flashcards are produced by an AI model from the text and context you provide. They can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong, and they can misread the context. Always check important information against the original source. If an answer is offensive, unsafe, or clearly wrong, you can report it through the contact form.
AI output is not legal, medical, financial, tax, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. You decide how to use it and you remain responsible for what you do with it.
To the extent we hold rights in AI output generated for you, we let you use it for your own purposes. The same or similar output may be produced for other users; it is not exclusive to you.
6. Free allowance
Every new account receives 10 free uses in each of the first 3 months after registration (policy signup_3x10_v1). Each month-long window is measured from the moment you registered; unused free uses lapse at the end of each window, are never carried forward, and are never converted into Points.
After the third window the free allowance ends. The free allowance is not a trial and does not turn into a paid plan by itself. We may change the allowance for accounts created after a change is announced.
7. Subscriptions
Subscription plans (Basic, Pro, and Premium) are billed monthly in advance and include a monthly allowance of AI uses, as described on the plan page at the time you subscribe. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time from your Subscription page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period: you keep access and your remaining allowance until then, and you are not charged again. Cancellation does not trigger an automatic refund; see the Refund Policy.
If a renewal payment fails, the paid allowance pauses immediately until payment succeeds. Free uses and purchased Points remain available under their own rules. You can change plans from the Subscription page; upgrades may apply immediately and downgrades apply at the end of the current period, as shown before you confirm.
8. One-time Points packs
InterStand Points are a prepaid balance you can buy in one-time packs and spend on AI uses, with your consent, once your included allowances are used up. Purchased Points do not expire.
Points that we grant through promotions, codes, or rewards are shown separately as Other Points and expire on the date shown next to them. Included uses are spent first, then the Other Points that expire soonest, and purchased Points last.
Points have no cash value, cannot be transferred to another account, and cannot be exchanged for money except where a refund is granted under the Refund Policy or required by law.
9. Prices and payment
Prices are shown in US dollars. Where a sales tax, VAT, or similar tax applies, the price shown at checkout already includes it unless the checkout page clearly says otherwise.
Payments are processed by our payment providers (currently Stripe and PayPal). We never see or store your full card number. By confirming a purchase you authorize the provider to charge the shown amount and, for subscriptions, each renewal.
We may change prices. Changes to a subscription price apply from the next renewal after we have given you reasonable notice; you can cancel before that renewal if you do not agree.
10. Cancellation, withdrawal, and refunds
Digital services start as soon as your purchase is confirmed. At checkout you request immediate access and acknowledge that, once delivery begins, any statutory right of withdrawal may be limited to the extent the law allows.
Refunds are handled according to the Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms. In summary: cancelling never refunds automatically, subscription charges may be refunded at our discretion within 14 days if the plan was not used beyond the free allowance, unused Points packs may be refunded, and chargebacks revoke access. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.
11. Your content and learning data
When you use InterStand, we store the text you selected, your question, and the AI answer as a learning session so you can return to it, save it, and turn it into Elements and flashcards. How long we keep it, how surrounding context is redacted, and how you can export or delete it are described in the Privacy Policy.
You keep the rights you hold in what you submit or import. So that we can provide the service, you allow us to store and process that content, show it back to you, and pass it to our AI provider, only as far as the features you use require. This permission ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies kept under the retention rules in the Privacy Policy.
Saving your learning history does not give us permission to use it for personalization, advertising, or model training. We do not sell your content.
12. Suspension and termination
You can stop using InterStand at any time and delete your account from the Account page. Deletion ends your active sessions immediately and schedules permanent deletion; you have 7 days to cancel it.
We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Where reasonable we will tell you in advance. Billing, tax, fraud-prevention, and audit records may be retained only where required.
13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
InterStand is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or fit for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Some laws do not allow these limitations; in that case they apply only to the extent permitted, and any rights you cannot waive stay in force.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which InterStand is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of mandatory law in the country where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts where the law allows.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the service changes. The date at the top shows the current version. For material changes we will give notice in the product or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use InterStand after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, stop using the service and cancel any subscription before the next renewal.
